Dr Vera Djepa Obtained her Masters Degree and PhD from the University of Dundee in 2002 and 2004 respectively.  Dr Djepa has had a track record of research and publications in the fields of

Signal and Image processing, pattern recognition, visualization and classification with particular interest in application of algorithms to remote sensing in space and climate studies.  Vera has published widely in the area of Earth and planetary environmental remote sensing and classification particularly in relation to the environmental measurement, modelling and visualisation of chemical and life cycle data.

Dr Djepa has worked as a research scientist on various related international projects at the Universities of Dundee and Edinburgh; her work and publications to-date has included the following specific areas:

    • Development of advanced algorithms for retrieval of atmospheric, land and ocean constituents and events from remotely sensed (satellite, aero or surface) multi-spectral observations in the ultraviolet, visible, thermal infra-red and microwave (passive and actives (radars)) spectral range.
    • Development of intelligent algorithms for automated, robotic systems and human computer interactions (processing sensor information, detecting events, location and motion planning; including probabilistic algorithms, machine perception and computer vision, modelling objects and environment)
    • Modelling, simulation and forecasting of Earth system, climate, atmospheric and ocean processes, using climate, ocean and radiative transfer models.
    • Remote sensing applications in natural resources, air and water pollution, environmental, land, atmospheric and ocean sciences using data from ESA, NASA, and EUMETSAT programs in the visible, thermal infra-red and microwave (passive and active spectral range)
    • Quantitative analysis of large data sets from model simulation and observations, applying statistical analyses and visualisation
    • Geo-spatial analyses, mapping and visualization, using image processing software
    • Specification, design and quality control of complex remote sensing products and sensors.
    • Calibration and validation of satellite products and sensors in the optical and microwave spectral range.
    • Statistical, probability, data and time series analyses, regression, correlation, forecasting, classification, clustering of large data sets.
    • Software Engineering, using C, IDL, Java and scripting languages
